Exit Through the Gift Shop

Travis and I went to see Exit Through the Gift Shop yesterday. I highly recommend it. We had time to kill before the showtime and we were hungry, so we had lunch at Umami Burger and went to Amoeba. Luckily for me, they were having a DVD sale. I got to take five movies home for very little money. I love good deals!

Coachella 2010

A couple of friends and I went to Coachella last weekend. It was a lot of fun. Who was my favorite? Well, that's a toughie. My top 10 performances overall were She & Him, Passion Pit, Beach House, Grizzly Bear, Phoenix, The Gossip, Jónsi, Dead Weather, Thom Yorke/Atoms for Peace, and Jay Z.

The only bad thing about Coachella is when two bands you want to see play at the same time, which happened a couple of times for me. I wish I could personally arrange the set times. Despite that, everything was great. I will definitely be going every year from now on :)

I finished with finals last week so in theory I should be posting more often but instead I've turned into an unproductive blob. In the past days I've had two It's Always Sunny marathons and eaten copious amounts of junk food. ANYWAY, the two above are from Big Bear on Sunday. Unfortunately, my camera died within a few minutes of being there... big bummer. My body is sore from falling on the snow, which is sorta convenient because it gives me an excuse to be lazy and have a Dexter catch-up marathon before Christmas.

Note to self: snowboarding is not for you.

I took a few pictures of my sister's belly. She is now four months pregnant!

Personally, the pictures blow my mind. It's a beautiful thing to see the differences twenty years can make on people. Also, the then&now portraits shown side by side concept definitely make it powerful. It is visual documentation at its finest. On Thursday, May 21, 2009, five cities across the country are hosting public vigils to bring awareness to the plight of Laura Ling and Euna Lee, two journalists who have been detained in North Korea for the past 10 weeks. Laura, who’s sister is television reporter Lisa Ling, and Euna were on assignment through Current TV on the China-North Korean border, when they were arrested by two guards.

Vigils in New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Portland and Orlando have been organized though a grassroots effort through Facebook for purpose of gathering peacefully and showing support. Notably, these vigils hope to bring awareness to the plight of these two women.

To date, Euna and Laura have been kept in separate cells, and have not been allowed contact with their families. They’ve only received one outside visitor, a Swedish diplomat. The government of North Korea is accusing these two women of “suspected hostile acts,” charging them with spying and illegally crossing the border, which has been founded untrue. If deemed guilty by the North Korean government, these women will be charged with 5 to 10 years in prison. The worst part is that the trials in North Korea do not follow due process and don’t ascribe to international laws. It is assumed that Laura and Euna are being subjected to intense interrogation, which could include various forms of torture.

As this news has not really received much media attention, the candlelight vigils are to shine light on to their story. We invite you to come out and show your support. Bring candles, lights, signs, cameras and video cameras to share the experience and, most importantly, Euna and Laura’s story.

So, about a week ago Tatiana, Joe and I went to Salvation Mountain for a day trip. I've been wanting to go for a while now. I first heard about it a year ago on a Current pod. Then, many of my friends started talking about the place. One of my friends even started to plan a camping trip, but for various reasons(people bailing) it was canceled. The Day trip was really fun.

Meeting Leonard Knight and his mountain was an inspiration.

3,500 never-before-seen photos of The Beatles and Rollings Stones have been recently discovered! 48 of the 3,500 will be shown starting March 4 at the Not Fade Away gallery in New York's Chelsea. The rare, extremely valuable find comes from the personal collection of Bob Bonis, agent that managed the stateside tours of the two bands from 1964 to 1966.

I was bored one day, so I decided to do some light drawing. The one above is my favorite. Note to self: get a bigger flashlight! (The one I used was a pocket flashlight, so it was hard). Glow sticks and fireworks also work nice.

We went to see Benjamin Button at Bella Terra. I believe it was the last showing, it ended around 1:20am. The movie was really good. I recommend you to watch it! It got a bit depressing. And, yes... it's a long movie, but it has a good life story. Overall, 4/5 stars. Go watch it

Above the Influence is an Propaganda advertising campaign in the United States by the National Youth Anti-Drug Media Campaign that advocates against recreational drug use, focusing explicitly on cannabis use by American Teenagers. The program's primary medium is television advertisements. Info via wikipedia.

Are you familiar with the AboveTheInfluence ads? I am too. To be honest, I really enjoy their ads because they get the point across and they're innovative. Also, the quality is great. However, this particular ad failed its purpose in my opinion. The characters in the commercial are incredibly happy, too happy. I don't do drugs, but these people look so happy that it makes me curious! I know, I know... the overall tone is clearly sarcastic but I don't buy it. Call me crazy. Every time I catch it on TV it makes me laugh. Maybe that was the purpose? To get the audience to remember it by using the comedy factor? Who knows. Overall, good ad :)
